The creator gathered all of creation and said, "I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it. It is the realization that they create their own health."
The eagle said, "Give it to me, I will take it to the moon."
The creator said, "No one day they will go there and find it."
The salmon said, "I will hide it at the bottom of the ocean."
"No. They will go there, too."
The buffalo said, "I will bury it on the plains."
The creator said, "They will cut into the the skin of the earth and find it there."
The grandmother mole, who lives in the breast of mother earth and has no physical eyes but sees with spirit eyes, said, "Put it inside of them."
And the creator said, "It is done."
--- An old Sioux story
I believe that this story sums up my understanding that clients are the best people to involve in the healing process. Clients have all the data, take all the risks and implement much of the solution. A lot of therapist's out there don't take the time to ask clients questions or get to know them because they feel they already know the answer. As a massage therapist I take the time to listen to my clients and work with them to set up health goals based on what their needs are.
